Terms of Service
The legal stuff, written like a human being.
Using the Site
By using RentSplitter, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, close the tab. No hard feelings.
You can use the calculator, read the blog, share links, print pages for personal use, and do normal internet things. You cannot scrape our content, hack the site, use it for illegal purposes, or pretend you built it.
Not Legal or Financial Advice
RentSplitter provides estimates and educational content. We are not lawyers, accountants, or financial advisors. The calculator gives suggested splits based on mathematical formulas. It does not create legally binding agreements.
If you need a legally enforceable roommate contract, consult a lawyer. If you need tax advice about rental income, consult an accountant. We are people who built a calculator.
Accuracy
We try to be accurate. We use established fair division principles. But every roommate situation is different, and "fair" is sometimes subjective. The calculator gives a starting point for negotiation, not a final verdict.
If the calculator suggests $800 and your roommate thinks $750 is fair, that is a conversation for you two to have. The calculator does not replace communication.
Intellectual Property
The code, content, design, and branding belong to us. Share links and quote small portions with attribution. Do not copy the entire site or republish our articles under your name.
Affiliate Links
Some links are affiliate links, primarily to Amazon and rental services. If you click and buy, we might earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We disclose this per FTC guidelines. Consider it disclosed.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, RentSplitter is not liable for damages from your use of the site. This includes direct, indirect, and emotional damages from finding out your roommate thinks your room is only worth $50 less than the master bedroom.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by US law. Disputes resolved in Delaware courts, because that is where internet companies incorporate.
