We do not want your data. We literally cannot access it.
What We Collect (Hint: Almost Nothing)
RentSplitter is designed to be as private as possible. When you enter rent amounts, roommate names, or room sizes into our calculator, that information never leaves your device. It is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We do not have a server that stores your inputs. We do not have a database of roommate configurations.
We could not tell you how much rent you entered if we wanted to. We do not want to. Your financial information is none of our business.
Cookies and Tracking
We do not use cookies for tracking. We do not use Google Analytics. We do not have Facebook pixels. We do not retarget you with ads for apartments because you visited our site.
The only cookies that might exist are functional ones from our hosting provider for basic site delivery. These are not used to track you, profile you, or sell you anything.
If we add analytics in the future, we will use privacy-focused tools like Plausible that do not collect personal data. And we will update this policy.
Advertising
We display ads through Google AdSense and include affiliate links to products like moving supplies, rental insurance, and furniture. These third-party services may use cookies to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings.
We do not control what ads Google shows you. If you see an ad for something weird, that is between you and your search history.
Data Security
Since we do not collect personal data, there is not much to secure. The site is served over HTTPS. Our hosting provider handles infrastructure security. We do not have user accounts, so there are no passwords to leak.
Third-Party Links
Our blog posts may link to Amazon, rental insurance providers, or moving services. Some of these are affiliate links, meaning we might earn a small commission if you make a purchase. It does not cost you extra. We only recommend products we have researched or would use ourselves.
Children's Privacy
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The site is intended for adults renting apartments. If you are under 13, you probably should not be signing leases anyway.
Changes to This Policy
If we change anything meaningful, we will update this page. We will not email you because we do not have your email.
